The biggest reason I got into this business is because of my passion for excellence. I traveled for several years visiting at least two different churches every week and found sound quality to be a consistent struggle. Pastors I spoke with thought poor quality of sound was just something they had to suffer with or that it would take a boat load of money to improve it. The truth is, you might have amazing equipment in place, but if you don't have trained personnel, it will be a constant headache.
Many churches build out facilities and then realize they need to put a sound system in there. Maybe a lighting system and certainly a video system will also need to go into the space. Statistics say that most churches will purchase three sound systems before they have one they like. System design at build out is very beneficial. We may think that cutting corners on the technical budget is wise but wasting money on something you will be unhappy with is not wise at all. Why not get it right the first time?
I have worked in full time ministry since 1989 and have been a Technical Director since 1992. I have also had the opportunity to work with many churches to develop a strategy for technical system design, installation and training of personnel, including seminars on team building, volunteer recruitment/training and synergistic staff meetings.
